Senior Year Done Right

College Counseling for High School Seniors in the Bay Area

End-to-End College Admissions Support for Seniors

Senior year moves fast. Between applications, essays, deadlines, and decisions, there is a lot to manage all at once. Students who go into it with a clear plan handle it differently than those who figure it out as they go.

StrivePath works with seniors through every stage of the college admissions process. From building a smart college list to submitting the final application, we stay involved the whole way. Your student works one-on-one with the same counselor throughout, so nothing slips through and every decision is made with the full picture in mind.

How It Works

Step 1

Assess

We take time to get to know your student's goals, grade level, and timeline. This gives us a clear starting point before we do anything else.

Step 2

Plan

We build a clear academic and college roadmap that works for your student. No two students are the same, so no two plans look alike.

Step 3

Guide

Our team supports your family at every stage of the process. We stay with your student from middle school all the way through senior year.

What We Work On With Your Student

College List Building

A strong college list is balanced, realistic, and built around who your student actually is. We research schools carefully and help families make decisions based on real fit, not just name recognition.

What's included:

  • Building a balanced list of safety, target, and reach schools
  • School research based on major, campus culture, and fit
  • Understanding admission odds based on your student's profile
  • Narrowing the list as applications progress

Essay and Application Guidance

The personal statement and supplement essays are where students either stand out or blend in. We help students find a genuine story to tell and develop it into writing that sounds like them.

What's included:

  • Personal statement brainstorming and angle development
  • Draft feedback and revision across multiple rounds
  • Supplement essay support for each school
  • Activities list and additional application sections
  • Final proofreading before submission

Application Strategy and Deadline Management

Missing a deadline or submitting a rushed application can cost a student a school they genuinely wanted. We keep everything organized and moving so your student is never scrambling at the last minute.

What's included:

  • Building a full application calendar with school-specific deadlines
  • Early decision and early action strategy
  • Application requirement tracking across all schools
  • Review of each application before submission

Academic Planning for Senior Year

Senior year grades still matter. Colleges pay attention, and some rescind offers when grades drop. We help students stay on track academically while managing the demands of applications.

What's included:

  • Course management and senior year academic strategy
  • Regular progress check-ins throughout the year
  • Teacher recommendation letter strategy and timing
  • Guidance on maintaining academic rigor through second semester

SAT/ACT Final Planning

For students still testing in senior year, timing and strategy matter. We help students decide whether to test again and how to make the most of any remaining opportunities.

What's included:

  • Test score evaluation and retake strategy
  • Test-optional decision guidance by school
  • Score submission planning and deadlines
  • Coordinating testing timelines with application schedules

Financial Aid and Scholarship Guidance

College costs are one of the biggest decisions families make. We help students and parents understand financial aid, find scholarship opportunities, and submit everything on time.

What's included:

  • FAFSA completion guidance and timeline
  • CSS Profile support for private school applications
  • Scholarship identification and application strategy
  • Understanding financial aid award letters and comparing offers

Post-Application Support

Getting into college is one step. Choosing the right one is another. We stay involved after applications go in to help families make the best final decision.

What's included:

  • Waitlist and deferral strategy and communication
  • Comparing financial aid and merit scholarship offers
  • Guidance on making a final enrollment decision
  • Support through deposit deadlines and next steps

Transitioning to College

Senior year does not end at acceptance. We help students feel genuinely ready for what comes next, not just relieved that applications are over.

What's included:

  • College success preparation and expectation setting
  • Financial budgeting basics for college life
  • Guidance for parents on supporting the transition
  • Planning for first-semester academic success

Thank you, StrivePath! As a mom navigating our first college process, I can’t say enough about Saumya—she was patient, supportive, reassuring, and kind from start to finish. She built a realistic summer plan for my son that helped us complete the college research and essay work early, so when October 1 arrived, our applications were already submitted. The organization and calm she brought to the process were a huge relief. She reassured my son that he would have many options and celebrated each college admittance with him. We felt guided every step of the way. Get ready for Kid #2!

 FAQs

Get answers to the top questions about our academic and college planning services.

  • Is it too late to start working with a counselor in senior year?

It depends on where your student is in the process. If applications have not been submitted yet, there is still time to make a real difference on essays, strategy, and school selection. We have helped students turn things around with as little as a few weeks before deadlines. The sooner you reach out, the more we can do.

  • How many schools should my student apply to?

There is no universal answer, but most students benefit from a list of eight to twelve schools that includes a genuine range. Too few and you limit options. Too many and quality suffers across applications. We help families find the right number based on your student's profile and goals.

  • How does your essay support actually work?

We start with brainstorming to find the right angle, then work through multiple drafts with detailed feedback. We never write the essay for your student. The goal is to help them say what they actually mean in a way that holds up on its own.

  • Do you help if my student gets deferred or waitlisted?

Yes. We help students decide whether to stay on a waitlist, write a letter of continued interest, and how to approach the school in a way that is genuine rather than desperate.

  • Can you help with financial aid negotiation?

We guide families through understanding award letters and comparing offers across schools. For more complex financial aid negotiation, we can connect you with specialists who focus specifically on that.

  • What happens after all applications are submitted?

We stay involved through decisions, waitlists, and final choices. Submitting applications is not the finish line. Choosing the right school with the right financial package is just as important as getting in.

  • Do senior year grades really still matter?

Yes. Colleges review mid-year reports and final transcripts. Admission can be rescinded if grades drop significantly. We help students stay focused academically through the end of the year, not just through the application deadline.

  • Do you work with seniors in my area?

Yes. StrivePath works with families both in person and remotely across the Bay Area. We have dedicated pages for senior-year students in Fremont, Oakland, Mountain View, Cupertino, San Ramon, Walnut Creek, San Mateo, Moraga, and Mill Valley. If your city is not listed, get in touch and we will find a way to connect.
