Why Southern Marin Families Choose StrivePath

Southern Marin families tend to want something specific from the admissions process: strong outcomes without turning adolescence into a job. Students at Tamalpais High School and Redwood High School are often serious athletes, musicians, sailors, or climbers as much as they are students, and the Tam district's culture supports that breadth. The risk is not that these students are underscheduled. It is that a genuinely interesting teenager reaches junior year with a schedule full of good things and no clear story, and with course choices made informally rather than with the next four years in mind.

The geography here also concentrates comparison. There are only a few high schools in the district, everyone knows where everyone applied, and Marin Catholic, Branson, and the Bay Area independent schools sit close by with their own norms and their own results. Because Marin families apply out of state and to small liberal arts colleges at unusually high rates, the advice students hear locally is often a mix of UC-focused thinking and East Coast assumptions that do not actually apply to their list.

StrivePath brings structure to that without flattening what makes a student interesting. We help students plan courses several years ahead, build the organizational habits that survive a heavy training or performance schedule, take one or two real interests further than a resume line, understand how athletic recruiting timelines interact with applications, and build a list that spans the UCs, private universities, and the smaller colleges many Marin students ultimately prefer. The goal is a confident, independent student, not a managed applicant.

Thank you, StrivePath! As a mom navigating our first college process, I can’t say enough about Saumya—she was patient, supportive, reassuring, and kind from start to finish. She built a realistic summer plan for my son that helped us complete the college research and essay work early, so when October 1 arrived, our applications were already submitted. The organization and calm she brought to the process were a huge relief. She reassured my son that he would have many options and celebrated each college admittance with him. We felt guided every step of the way. Get ready for Kid #2!

Strivepath really does strive for excellence. My daughter is with Strivepath for sometime now. Their counselors are very empathetic, resourceful and knowledgeable. They focus on kids mental health a lot while guiding the path for college admissions. I will highly recommend their service for anyone looking for college counseling. We are very happy with their service.

 FAQs

Get answers to the top questions about our academic and college planning services.

  • Do you work with students from Tamalpais High School and Redwood High School?

Yes. Our Mill Valley office works with Tam district students on course selection, executive functioning, extracurricular strategy, college research, essays, and applications, beginning as early as middle school.

  • Do you also work with Tiburon, Belvedere, and Sausalito families?

Yes. We work with students from Del Mar Middle School, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy, and the Southern Marin communities that feed into Tamalpais High School.

  • Do you work with students at Marin Catholic, Branson, and other independent schools?

Yes. We regularly work alongside independent school college counseling offices, adding long-term academic planning, interest development, and application support tailored to the student.

  • Our student is a competitive athlete. Can you help with recruiting timelines?

Yes. Many Southern Marin students train year round. We help families sequence recruiting outreach, testing, course rigor, and applications so that athletics and academics do not collide in junior and senior year.

  • We are considering colleges outside California. Can you help with that?

Yes. Marin families apply out of state and to smaller liberal arts colleges at high rates. We help students compare those options against the UCs and CSUs on fit, cost, and outcomes rather than reputation alone.

  • What if our student's school is not listed?

The school list highlights many of the communities we regularly serve, but it is not exhaustive. We welcome families from throughout Southern Marin, the Ross Valley, and the surrounding North Bay.

  • Are meetings held in person?

Yes. Families may meet with their advisor at our Mill Valley office, with additional flexibility depending on the student's plan and needs.
