How to Start a Winning Club or Project in High School

Starting a high-impact club or project in high school is one of the best ways to stand out on college applications and grow leadership skills early. At StrivePath, we empower students to take initiative, build authentic passion projects, and make a lasting impact.

Here are some pointers on how to start a winning club or project during your high school career.

1. Identify Your Passion and Purpose

Choose a topic that excites you—whether it’s sustainability, music, theatrics, coding, mental health, or entrepreneurship. The more authentic your interest, the more likely your project will succeed.

2. Research and Validate

Is there a gap in your school or community that your project can fill? Research similar initiatives and define how yours will stand out. Clear goals and a unique angle are key.

3. Build a Team

Every successful high school club needs committed members. Start small, find students who share your vision, and delegate roles early. See if there is interest by posting an inquiry sheet at your school's newsboard or newspaper or during club rush.

4. Get Faculty Support

A faculty advisor can help navigate school policies, secure resources, and provide long-term support. Pitch your idea with a clear plan and timeline. Clearly lay out the needs and how they can support you.

5. Financial Backing

Depending on the Club, there may be fees involved. Consider how to support your cause by considering membership dues, fundraising events to support your club to bring awareness of your cause and re-invest the funds into events that highlight your club contributions or participation.

6. Launch and Scale

Start with one impactful event or meeting. Gather feedback, promote on social media, and grow through consistency. Don’t forget to track your outcomes—document your start, growth and development as it all shows impact!
